Summer Solstice is here, and that means it’s time to celebrate Litha and all the blessings that it brings. As the daylight rules our lives at this time of year, we at Sabbat Box wanted to bring some its greener fruits to you in a collection of items that pertain and assist in herbal magick and green spellwork. While the summer is full of activity and growth, we mirror the world around us and bring light and energy to all that we do.

We rely on our star to light the way in the darkness of the universe, to provide warmth and comfort and to grow our food and, of course, our herbs. Historical pagans placed a great emphasis on the use of herbs for medicine and magick. From the use of bay leaves by the Greek oracles of Delphi to reach a trance state, to the cunning woman living on the outskirts of a European town (providing herbal medicine to the sick townspeople), herbs are infused as a part of our history. When focusing on such a historically significant holiday here at Sabbat Box, we wanted to use a theme that not only celebrated the sun’s hard work but also tied in its historical beliefs. With its major popularity last year, we decided to give it another go for Litha and do an Herbal Witchery--part two!

What better way to add a little extra spiritual spark to your housework routine than with this floor sweep from The Barefoot Witchery. Common to Hoodoo practices, floor sweeps are a way of combining the mundane with the magical. Sherry Scott, the owner of The Barefoot Witchery, is a Hoodoo Practitioner herself and has a variety of suggestions on how to use Hoodoo floor sweeps in your spiritual practices. Help your guests feel at home and welcome in your space by sprinkling the herbs across your floor before sweeping or vacuuming them up. You can dispose of the remains by sweeping it out your door, flushing them down your toilet or pouring the herbal dust bunnies into your garbage bag. This authentic rue water by Light of Anjou was made specially for our Herbal Witchery box. Made up of distilled water, rue infused vodka, essential oils of rue, lavender, lime, and citronella, and is also infused with black tourmaline chips. It is a unique twist to a traditional recipe.
Because of rue’s diverse historical and magickal significance in legend and lore within cultures all around the world, we wanted to find a way to include it within our boxes. One of the more common yet practical ritual applications it is commonly used in combination with today is making rue water with it (especially within Voodoo, Hoodoo, Santeria and Wicca).
Rue water itself has a variety of uses; from protection to purification, success to healing, to spell breaking or road opening. It is particularly known for its ability to break evil eye, attract customers, and bring good fortune. With Anjou’s extra addition of tourmaline (a stone known for its shielding and protective properties), it helps to enforce the protective and cleaning aspects of this specific infusion. One of the main reasons we included these incense in our box was Herbal Moon Apothecary’s dedication to eco-friendly products. Made with charcoal and bamboo instead of paraben and petroleum, these offer an all-natural alternative to the synthetic material often found in other incense sticks.
Another reason for their inclusion was their herbal connection. Each stick is handcrafted with a blend of three sacred herbs that flourish during the summer: rosemary, lavender and sage. We strive for versatility in the use of the items procured for each box and nothing is more versatile than an all encompassing witching herb blend! PACKING & SHIPPING: Part of the costs of your box include the box and the packing material itself. The items listed below account for a good portion of the overall costs for the Midsummer Sabbat Boxes. Each Midsummer Sabbat Box is lined with paper padding and wrapping to add to the surprise of what we’ve curated for you. Shipping is also included in the total price for Sabbat Boxes. The average cost to ship boxes is roughly $9.50. Also, we here at Sabbat Box wish to be as environmentally friendly that we can be and do our best to source packing supplies and material from companies that have the same beliefs we do, in that we want to make as little of an impact as possible on the environment, while also keeping the content of your boxes safe as they make their journey to you.
BOXES: Your boxes where made from high quality corrugated paper and are 100% recyclable. Please try to find another use for your box. They are 9x9x3 on the inside. You could decorate your box to hold some magickal supplies or use it again to ship something to someone or save it for another time when you may need it. If you have to get rid of it, please try to recycle it.
BROCHURES: Your brochures are printed on recyclable 16pt paper, which is sourced from sustainable forests.
TISSUE PAPER & FILLING: The green tissue paper is made from 100% recycled paper and is recyclable. The colored filler inside each box is made from scraps of recycled colored crinkle paper and is biodegradable. The filler comes from an eco friendly, woman owned company.

TIME: We take pride in assembling each and every Sabbat Box by hand, no matter the amount of time it takes. We don't just throw your items inside a flat rate priority mail box like some other subscription box companies out there. We want your Sabbat Box to be delivered to you as beautifully as it left us, and it takes a tremendous amount of time to complete this task.
This includes folding the boxes together, individually cutting each sheet of tissue paper by hand, weighing out the crinkle paper for each box, designing the flyers, coupons, stickers and brochures to be printed professionally by commercial printers, individually placing each item within their corresponding bags, individually assembling the boxes, individually packing the tissue paper within each box by hand and also putting together and creating product packing. This timeframe doesn't even include the efforts made to manage the Sabbat Box website, the back end billing system, social media management, customer service inquiries, accounting, marketing, purchasing, networking, and so on. This is a labor of love and we enjoy serving the community!
We believe in what it is we are doing and we sincerely hope that each and every one of you can see that the purest of intent and utmost care goes into curating each Sabbat Box.

The world grows warmer, the days longer and the trees greener. The sun rises high overhead towards the noon-hour as the Wheel of the Year turns once again. Here, we find ourselves nearing the Summer Solstice. But what’s in a word? “Solstice” comes from Latin root words “sol” and “sistere.”
Sol. Sun.
Sistere. Stopped.
Quite literally, “solstice” translates to “the day the sun stood still.” Looking back at what our ancestors must have thought, it’s no surprise as to why! On the solstice, the sun seems to simply stop at the height of the day, hanging in the summer sky.
Ancient Egyptians may have observed the solstice as it corresponded with the Nile’s rise, offering prediction for flooding. Some Greek calendars used the Summer Solstice to mark the start of their new year. Romans celebrated Vestalia, a holiday where married women could enter temples designated for virgins only in order to make offerings to the goddess of the home, Vesta. Ancient Europeans celebrated the solstice with bonfires to add to the sun’s growing energy, encouraging a bountiful harvest. And, of course, we have a number of ancient structures that align with the Summer Solstice, including the ever-popular Stonehenge.
Modern pagans celebrate the solstice as part of the Wheel of the Year, an adaptation of eight ancient pagan holidays of significance. Also known as Litha and Midsummer, the Summer Solstice is the beginning of summer and the longest day of the year as the sun reaches its apex in the astrological sign of cancer. Historically, it was the longest work day available, so we often associate this holiday with achievements, hard work and determination. We light bonfires, make music and celebrate success within our work, with all of the festivities being committed in the name of the sun.

With its popularity last year, we couldn’t think of a theme more representative of this sabbat, or more beloved by our subscribers, than Herbal Witchery – Part Two!
At the time of the Summer Solstice, a number of herbs reach their peak. We see these herbs lining the pathways of the forest in the hot summer sun, dancing in the warm breeze of the fields and climbing their way down the rolling hills to reach the roads we tread. We grow them in our gardens, harvest them from our farms and keep them in small pots near our kitchen. They are available to us at every turn, reaching for our hands, encouraging us to seek their wisdom.
As pagans and witches, we use herbs in a variety of ways, from the simple seasoning of our food to the many magical applications they provide. We anoint our candles with them, grind them into incense, leave them as offerings on our altars and cleanse our homes with them. We store them in our herb cabinets and apothecaries carefully, honoring them and their wisdoms. Many of these herbs have correspondences with solar energy, ensuring success, happiness and fruitful rewards. Every herb is infused with the sun’s light, the warmth of the summer days required to for them to grow. They are, in a word, perfect for the Summer Solstice.
As an integral part of our practices from ancient times to modernity, herbs are often one of the first easily-accessible tools for the budding pagan or witch, and a reliable source of magic for the advanced practitioner. When we compiled this solstice box, we took particular care in curating items that would be of use for any level of practice. Continuing with our theme from last year, we wanted to place a particular focus on the herbs themselves, including items that would be both practically useful and magically inspirational.
